Germany, Romania weigh up Moscow’s plans for Moldvoa

Romania’s new ethnic German president, Klaus Iohannis, made his first official visit to Germany and met with Merkel to discuss the possibility of Romania joining the EU’s visa-free Schengen Zone. Merkel said it would take a step-by-step process for the EU to remove all of its travel restrictions on Romania. The two leaders also discussed the possibility of Russia duplicating its Ukraine strategy in Moldova, which has pursued a similar policy to that of Ukraine’s current pro-EU government. Merkel said she hopes a repeat of what happened in Ukraine will not occur in Moldova.
