elections 2020

Democratic presidential hopefuls in the United States are finally beginning to get serious. By serious I mean they’re starting to drop out. The crowded field that featured over 20 candidates at the beginning of the year lost five in the past two months due to inadequate support and inability to reach necessary donor requirements to appear in the democratic primary debates. This is the only measure of the party getting serious however, the candidates who still believe they have a chance at running against Donald Trump continue to make normal people scratch our heads with bizarre stories about run ins with gang leaders like “Corn Pop”, praise for parents who use a nine year old transgender child to virtue signal, promises to “tell the public about aliens,” and claims

The presidents of the United States and Turkey are finding common ground where seemingly there is none.     There could be many reasons why Donald Trump and Recep Tayyip Erdogan are not meant to be friends. For one, the U.S. is protecting Erdogan’s archnemesis, Fethullah Gulen. Another is that Washington and Ankara have fractured relations over Turkey’s purchase of a Russian missile defense system.   Several other issues pit NATO allies Washington and Ankara against one another, though none larger at the moment than the matter of the Syrian Kurds. To Washington, the Syrian Kurds were the most trusted ally in the fight against the Islamic State. To Ankara, the Syrian Kurd military branch, the YPG, is one and the same with the PKK, which has long waged

The ground was ridiculous and Trump himself called the Democrats’ actions “witch hunt garbage”. I absolutely agree with him. In my

President Putin’s address to the Valdai forum   This year the Valdai forum gained in high-level profile – foreign heads of states attended the year’s plenary session, starring President Putin’s keynote address and his answers in the Q&A follow-up. The new old message – the pivot of the world is shifting to the East, and Russia is shifting its foreign policy alongside. One could mistakenly take Putin’s words at face value and deduct Russia is less interested in Europe and the West. Suffice it to dissect this into the strategic backdrop of the new cordial entente with Macron’s France and Trump’s America.   Do not take Valdai’s communications wrong – although the speakers were invited to discuss the longer-term horizon, not an inch of what they covered contradicts or

“Without meaning to say that the foreigners harbor such destructive intentions in their hearts, we yet positively assert that from their inordinate thirst after gain, they are perfectly careless about the injuries they inflict upon us! And such being the case, we should like to ask what has become of that conscience which heaven has implanted in the breasts of all men?”   The full text of Lin Tse-hsu impassioned open letter to Queen Victoria imploring her to intervene in the illegal smuggling of opium onto the shores of mainland China is a profound plea to morality. Delivered in 1839 in the months preceding the escalations that would result in the first Opium War, the letter fell on deaf hears by the time it was received in England. However, 180

The 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit will be held in New York on September 23rd. In attendance will be 16 year old Swedish environmental diva Greta Thunberg, who recently sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in a state-of-the-art “carbon neutral” sailboat in order to protest air travel. Her presence is so highly anticipated that on media attendance lists she is the only one mentioned by name. The guest lists look something like this, “Presidents, Prime Ministers, leading environmental scientists and Greta Thunberg!”   Who is Thunberg? A superstar in environmental circles. And the rise of her star has been an extraordinary thing to witness. In 12 short months she went from an impeccant looking teenager skipping school on Friday outside the Swedish parliament building with her famous “School strike

The Muller report is in and there is no doubt that it will leave a huge and shameful mark in American history. For what happened was a two-year long conspiracy to remove a legitimately elected American president by the democratic party, the main stream press and most disturbingly, the Department of Justice and large part of the intelligence community, including the FBI and the CIA.   To start with the press, as the perceptive Lee Smith has written in the Tablet Magazine, “None of what went on the last two years would have been possible without the press, an indispensible partner in the biggest political scandal in a generation.” Virtually the entire main stream press, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, CNN and

The article first published in americanthinker.com on 01/15/2019.   For many years geopolitical pundits have debated which way China is likely to go after it pulls large numbers of its population out of poverty. Following the semi-market reforms undertaken by Deng Xiaoping in 1978 and large-scale development, China has indeed brought large numbers of its population- some 250 million at last count – into the middle class. One theory, named after Reagan diplomat, Jeane Kirkpatrick, holds that dictatorships, like Franco’s in Spain and Salazar’s in Portugal, easily transform into democracies once their citizens become well-to-do and are no longer satisfied with economic freedoms alone. Others have argued that this does not apply to communist systems that operate on different command principles altogether.   This debate has become even more heated given some
