The 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit will be held in New York on September 23rd. In attendance will be 16 year old Swedish environmental diva Greta Thunberg, who recently sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in a state-of-the-art “carbon neutral” sailboat in order to protest air travel. Her presence is so highly anticipated that on media attendance lists she is the only one mentioned by name. The guest lists look something like this, “Presidents, Prime Ministers, leading environmental scientists and Greta Thunberg!” Who is Thunberg? A superstar in environmental circles. And the rise of her star has been an extraordinary thing to witness. In 12 short months she went from an impeccant looking teenager skipping school on Friday outside the Swedish parliament building with her famous “School strike
Despite ample evidence to the contrary, environmentalists are certain the planet is on its death bed sweating out its final breathe while humans turn up the thermometer. Although their estimation for exactly how much longer we have seems to change every time we reach their previous projection unscathed, the certainty grows. Decades of blatant misrepresentations of data should arouse anyone’s suspicion regarding the shrill of environmentalist propaganda, but lies are best served with a short-term memory and this time your imminent demise is really coming. In fact, according to controversial US freshman lawmaker Alexandria Occasio-Cortez, “the world is gonna [sic] end in 12 years.” In typical neoliberal “clown nose on, clown nose off” fashion she later professed that anybody who actually believed what she said had the intelligence of

The democrats’ latest promise to fuel America’s economy from “100% percent clean, renewable, zero-emission” sources and do so within a decade, while eliminating “systemic injustice,” sounds very much like the perennial Soviet promises that communism was just around the corner. And the communist tenor of these promises is unmistakable. For apart from ridding the world of CO2 emissions, the Green New Deal’s promoters also promise national i.e. government, health care, government job guarantees, upgrading all buildings in the country to green standards and high-speed trains to replace air travel. The only doubts these wild-eyed socialists seem to have is that they are “not sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast,” as their, in the

The article first published in americanthinker.com on 02/04/2019. As I started writing this on the balmy if increasingly socialist, left coast on January 27th, the US media were full of dire predictions of a catastrophic cold snap in the Midwest and New England. The same day, in Brussels, 70,000 people (35,000 of them clueless school children) demonstrated with slogans like “Winter is not coming anymore,” “Nature grows, capitalism blows” and “Stop denying the earth is dying.” Alas, Winter did come to both the Midwest and Europe and did so with a vengeance. 21 people have died of hypothermia in the US so far and at least 10 in Poland. Temperatures dipped to a hellish minus 23 degrees Fahrenheit (- 30.5 Celsius) in Chicago, and minus 14 degrees Celsius ( 7
Last week in Washington at a little noticed event Trump’s new head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Scott Pruitt, said something that had not been heard from a government official since before the Obama administration came to power in 2008. Asked by a journalist if he believed that anthropogenic carbon dioxide was the main reason for global warming, Pruitt straight out denied this central tenet of the global warming orthodoxy. “So, no,” he said, “I would not agree it’s a primary contributor to the global warming that we see.” Pruitt is, of course, right. Of the greenhouse gasses that are believed to cause warming, 95% are made up of water vapor and only 0.04 of CO2. But to radical environmentalists, most of whom are leftists, the 0.04 is,
On Sunday, May 8, 2016, a long-held dream of Greens around the world seemed to come true. On that day, German wind and solar installations produced enough electricity to satisfy 87% of the consumption of the largest industrial power in Europe. Greens and fellow-travellers rejoiced for here finally was proof positive that clean renewable sources could supply us with all the energy we need and that the days of the hated fossil fuels appeared numbered indeed. Alas, hardly had the hype surrounding this momentous achievement died down, before the renewable claque suffered its greatest defeat in years, a defeat that may put paid to the whole German ‘Energiewende’ (energy transition) experiment that had long been the pride and joy and best hope of environmental zealots the world over. It
